If ever there was a title perfectly matched for PlayStation VR, then it’s unquestionably Hitman 3. The stealth assassination sequel is not only enormous – compiling all of the content of Hitman and Hitman 2 alongside its roster of new sandbox stages – but it also marries virtual tourism with outstanding stealth action. In virtual reality, every kill is going to feel personal.
This new trailer showcases just what’s in store for you when you play the title with a PSVR headset equipped. You can tap the shoulders of enemies to attract their attention, physically slam piano lids on the heads of foes, and drop guards to their death. It looks like an enormous amount of work has gone into this, and we can’t wait to try it for ourselves.
The only real caveat is that you’ll need to play the PlayStation 4 build to enjoy the virtual reality experience, as the PlayStation 5 version isn’t compatible. Obviously you can still have both editions installed on your next-gen console, but it’s an unnecessary complication, and it means the PSVR experience won’t benefit from all of the visual and performance improvements of the PS5 edition.
Still, we can’t wait to try this and wield Agent 47’s infamous fibre wire for ourselves. Due to age restrictions, YouTube has irritatingly prevented us from embedding the video on this page. Check out the trailer embedded above, and let us know if you’ll be digging out your PSVR headset to give this a try later in the month.

It’s a shame that PSVR is only on the PS4 version, it complicates things. Lord knows what’s going on with PSVR long-term.
I was stupid when I got my ps5 and thought "oh there is no reason for me to need a dualshock 4 anymore" so I sold them... completely forgetting about the light bars required for tracking. So currently I can't play games like Astros rescue mission or moss, or even hitman vr when it comes out. I'll need to get a new one soon. This looks too good to pass up.
VR not for me but this looks great and the Miami Flamingo Easter egg would be first thing I’d try to do if I could use VR.
Absolutely ridiculous that the PS5 can’t run PS5 games in VR for some reason. I just do not understand it . Also baffling that Sony dropped 3D support for VR movies. I’ve got the PS5 adapter but have decided to keep the PSVR connected to my base PS4 for this reason, meaning I’m missing out on some performance boosts in games.
I’m hoping Sony aren’t dropping VR like they have Japanese developers, but it’s not looking good.
@thefourfoldroot I mean the PS5 could do it, it's just Sony has decided to make the distinction that PSVR is a PS4 accessory. Presumably this is to reduce complication when it inevitably releases PSVR2 down the line.
Looks awesome
Looks amazing. I can’t wait, but looks like I’ll have to.
Still don’t have my adaptor, and doesn’t look like I’ll be getting one anytime soon. Their customer service has been absolutely abysmal.
@get2sammyb
I don’t think it’s necessarily inevitable but, if they release a headset, I suspect it will be standalone. The ps5 camera isn’t designed for VR, neither is the controller, and the drive doesn’t even read 3D films.
True, there will be new controllers and a software update could allow 3D films to be played on the headset but still...Everyone is saying how they don’t want to be tethered...then you have the Quest showing that convenience is more important, and profitable, than specs...
@thefourfoldroot PSVR 2 is coming, they have loads of prototyped handheld controllers that do cool hand stuff so I guess it's just a matter of time. Announcement later this year
@torne Yeah, I had the same, sad realisation. Luckily, my wife has a controller she uses for her PC so that gives me a fix, but still, a bit annoying and something I feel was not very clearly advertised.
And yeah, I will definately try this!
Trailer looks too crisp and detailed for current gen PSVR.......here hoping it is captured on a PS4/5
.......now if Sony can respond to my missing PSVR adapter. Im sick and tired of wasting time being on hold and senting tweets with no reply for months on end!
Well it looks like I'm getting the PS4 version then. ^^
@nessisonett Will we know this year? No. Will we know next year? No. Will we know someday? I believe that.
Sounds to me like PSVR is going the way of the PSVITA. Too bad, for 2016 it’s a great piece of kit. They really need to upgrade the system big time. It’s got some of the best VR games, so like the VITA it’s worth getting if you don’t have it. Maybe 5 million headsets and 100 million games was not good enough. I’m not sold on the PS5 - lack of a remote play PlayStation handheld and a VR headset are deal breakers for me. Also, Sony censoring games it not too cool also. It’s pissing off many customers who like Japanese games. If the PS5 is the success the PS4 was I will be amazed.
@Burntbreadman I feel your pain. I’m going through the exact same problem with them. It’s laziness/incompetence on a new level. Every email or phone call leads to a different response.
@torne I believe you need a DS4 for some (probably the major part of them) not all the games. I only tested Wipeout (as despite hating driving games, I love that game in VR) and the dualsense works fine. I think HITMAN will use Move, at least I hope so, I can only accept RE7 with DS4 only
@madcow78 they have actually already confirmed its ds4 only.
@torne really? I think they dropped the ball. Come on, it was so cool to imagine using two moves to strangle a dude or using one to throw a knife that misses the target due to your poor aim.
@madcow78 I don't think it's about dropping the ball, I think it's more around thinking of how much more work they would need to put in to create a whole new control scheme for essentially 3 full games.
This is basically just hitman in first person now.
Also you have to imagine that 2 move controllers would be absolute garbage for trying to explore the levels. This is a game that needs true locomotion not just pointing and clicking.
@torne honestly, I think if a poor developed game like Skyrim can manage to have free movements with moves any game can do it.
However, I’d rather see that differently as apparently RE7 was developed for PSVR only as Sony gave 5mil to Capcom. Maybe they have done the same with I/O.
@theMEGAniggle maybe I work at Sony ehheehheheheheehehehehhehehe
